    Sertraline and weight

Sertraline Tablets is indicated for the treatment of symptoms of depressive illness, including accompanying symptoms of anxiety. Following satisfactory response, continuation with Sertraline Tablets therapy is effective in preventing relapse of the initial episode of depression or recurrence of further depressive episodes, including accompanying symptoms of anxiety. Sertraline Tablets is also indicated for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Following initial response, Sertraline Tablets has been associated with sustained efficacy, safety and tolerability in up to two years treatment of OCD. Clinical trials in PTSD demonstrated efficacy in female patients but no evidence of efficacy was seen in males. Treatment with Sertraline Tablets cannot normally therefore be recommended for male patients with PTSD. A therapeutic trial in males might on occasion be justified, but treatment should subsequently be withdrawn unless there is clear evidence of therapeutic benefit. Sertraline is indicated for the treatment of: Major depressive episodes. Prevention of recurrence of major depressive episodes. Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) in adults and paediatric patients aged 6-17 years. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) Depression and OCD Sertraline treatment should be started at a dose of 50 mg/day. Panic Disorder, PTSD, and Social Anxiety Disorder Therapy should be initiated at 25 mg/day. After one week, the dose should be increased to 50 mg once daily. This dosage regimen has been shown to reduce the frequency of early treatment emergent side effects characteristic of panic disorder. Depression, OCD, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder and PTSD Patients not responding to a 50 mg dose may benefit from dose increases. Dose changes should be made in steps of 50 mg at intervals of at least one week, up to a maximum of 200 mg/day.

We don't know exactly what causes depression and other mental health problems, but one theory that is pretty well-accepted is that there is chemical imbalance in the brain and nervous tissue. Several chemicals called neurotransmitters help nerve cells communicate, and serotonin is one of those chemicals. Nerve impulses cause the cell to release serotonin. The serotonin travels across the gap between cells and attaches to the other cell. Sertraline is a serotonin selective reuptake inhibitor; it keeps serotonin from being reabsorbed and allows it to accumulate, restoring chemical balance. Sertraline hydrochloride, which can be bought in the market under trade names like Zoloft and Lustral, is an antidepressant medication that is classified as part of the cluster of drugs with the collective name of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors. The medication is used to combat a number of mental irregularities such as anxiety disorders as well as a few other health conditions. Below is a few more tidbits of information on sertraline. As part of the group of drugs called SSRIs, sertraline prevents the reuptake of serotonin, a chemical in the brain, and increases its level in the brain. Serotonin, which is also called 5-HT, is a neurotransmitter that is believed to be partly responsible for the regulation of a person’s mood. Because it increases the brain levels of serotonin, sertraline is useful in the management of certain mental disorders that are somewhat caused by the release and transmission of inadequate levels of the substance. Sertraline is primarily used to treat conditions that are believed to be partly due to insufficient brain levels of serotonin.

By the age of 35, 60% of males will experience some degree of hair loss. Men who are predisposed to male pattern baldness will typically lose their hair in a defined pattern that starts above both temples (a receding hairline) and then inches back over time to form an “M” shape. However, hair loss can also progress quickly at the crown, gradually advancing until the entire front, top and crown are bald. Male pattern baldness is caused by the effects of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) on genetically susceptible hair follicles located in the front, top and crown of the scalp. DHT causes the hair follicle to shrink in size, both in diameter and length. As a result, the miniaturised follicle produces a small unpigmented vellus hair rather than the usual pigmented normal hair.
